Here are some questions people usually asks me:

01

What's the difference between Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

In short, Judo focus more in stand up throws techniques and Brazilian Jiu=jitsu focus more on ground submissions techniques. At Powersource you will learn both in one program and you will be grade on both.

Which uniform should I wear (Judo or BJJ)?

You can wear any of them, but you must wear your belt ranking in accord to your uniform in order not to cause confusion of your skill level since we have Judo and BJJ visitors from time to time. If  you buy a Judo uniform (we have for sale) you may compete in BJJ tournaments wearing it, but if you purchase a Bjj uniform you may not wear it in Judo tournaments.

How often do you promote, what are the charges and how long it will take to achieve the Black Belt?

I usually promote twice an year with few exceptions. The fees for Judo promotion is $35.00 and for BJJ from the blue and over starts at $50.00. Kids Bjj promotion fee is $35.00. Normally it takes 10 years to achieve a black belt, but it depends on the individual. If you choose to compete, you will move faster in the ranking system. We are not in the business of  "selling ranks" so, no kid under 16  will ever achieve a black belt in Judo, and if it happens, it's because that kid is a ranked national and international competitor. No one under 18 will ever achieve a Black Belt in BJJ.

04

What are the belts in Judo and  Bjj and what's the criteria for belt promotion?

This is how we promote students at our school. Please note that promotions may be different in other schools.

The criteria for belt promotion are in these order:

Competition record

Behaviour in class, home, school (kids)

At least 3 stripes on the belt (kids)

Depending on age and competition record a kid may or may not be promoted to half color belts

Ranking in Judo will not make you ranking in BJJ or vice versa.
